Executive Board Members

Lena Vecherkina
President
The president runs both the Executive Board meetings and the regular PTA meetings, creates the agenda for the meeting, coordinates with other board members and volunteers to organize events and fundraisers, meets with the principal to discuss school matters, receives all requests and correspondence for the PTA, signs legal documents, and guides the PTA’s overall goals.
Lena serves as PTA President and leads the Battle of the Books program at Thomas Paine. She is raising a 5th grader and a 2nd grader, and works professionally as a Senior eLearning Developer & Instructional Designer at CMR Institute.

Kelly Tu Frantz
Vice President
The vice president positions organize and oversee the PTA events and fundraising campaigns, coordinating with other volunteers and the president as needed. If necessary, the senior vice president takes over the presidential duties.
Kelly is serving as PTA Vice President and Carnival Committee Chair. She has a 6th grader and 2nd grader. She is an associate professor at the University of Illinois.

Liz Vallier
Vice President
The vice president positions organize and oversee the PTA events and fundraising campaigns, coordinating with other volunteers and the president as needed. If necessary, the senior vice president takes over the presidential duties.
This is my 2nd year serving as a PTA officer. I have 2 kids attending Thomas Paine, in 3rd grade and kindergarten. Outside of my role I work full time for the Erikson Institute as a Home Visiting Specialist, helping families connect to early childhood services. I also enjoy reading, baking, and gardening.

Ashley Sherwood
Treasurer
The treasurer handles the PTA’s bank account, depositing money and writing checks as needed, keeping track of all financial interactions, creating an annual budget and maintaining a ledger, filing any necessary IRS forms, and compiling monthly financial reports as well as the end of year report.
Ashley serves as the PTA Treasurer, I have a 4th and a 6th grader , I work full time for Carle Therapy Services.
Lauren Moller
Hospitality
The hospitality coordinator is not an elected position, but a volunteer that commits to the position for the year. The hospitality coordinator organizes and oversees the Spirit Week activities, Parent-Teacher conference dinners, and Teacher Appreciation Week activities and gifts.

Lisa Curtiss
Secretary
The secretary keeps accurate records of the PTA meeting key points, decisions, and action items.
Hi! My name is Lisa, I am the Thomas Paine PTA Secretary. I have two children, 1 who is in 2nd grade here at Thomas Paine, and another who is a 6th grader. When I’m not volunteering for the PTA, I’m working full time as an Executive Assistant at the Urbana Police Department.
